Smart cities are starting to emerge all around the world. They are urban cities that take advantage of different methods of electronic data collection sensors that supply a variety of information. These information are then used to manage assets and resources efficiently, increasing the quality of services offered to the citizens, at the same time reducing the operational costs of public administrations. In order to pursue the development of a Smart City, we deployed our own Socio-Environmental Key Inputs & Traffic Analysis Radar (SEKITAR).
The core concept of SEKITAR revolves around an integrated development planning and an “Artificial Intelligence”, introducing the principles of self-sustainable urban development, highlighting the crosscutting themes and recognising the correlation of data, and the importance of information managing. This project adopts the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, made possible using the RIG, which connects telematically to IoT devices such as sensors, light, and meters, allowing us to collect and analyse data. These data can be accessed wirelessly via long-distance transmission straight to mobile apps or websites open to anyone. The cities will then use the data to improve infrastructure, public utilities and services.
